The Mekong River by Tom & Maxwell Mekong_river.jpgmekong_river_on_map.jpgThe Mekong river is 4, 800km(10th largest in the world) and has 9 channels branching out called the Mekong Delta. The river flows through 6 countries, China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam emptying into the South China Sea. There are about 1700 amazing types of fish in the river such as, the Mekong giant catfish, the river catfish, the giant carp, the giant stingray and many more. The river flows through icy highlands, forest, mountains, forest hills and grass land. There are lots of issues in the Mekong such as, Mega Dams stopping water getting through to Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia or Vietnam. The other issue is so many spieces are dying in the river. People have no money for food so they fish causing overfishing. The last issue is in the Mekong there are lots of rapids which is a problem for the river natural flow, so people have to destroy them with dynomite effecting the natural environment.
